Key information

Spedimo set a goal to create a new transport exchange that would break the monopoly of existing platforms and respond to the needs of the groupage transport segment. The company recognized that dominant solutions were too complex and ill-suited to the realities of smaller freight forwarders’ work, so it decided to build from scratch a system that is fast, intuitive, and fully focused on the processes of this specific niche. Our task was to design and deliver a platform that accelerates transactions, simplifies the handling of multiple offers, and ensures high performance in conditions of high operational volatility. The result is a scalable tool created in response to a clearly defined market need.

About the client

Spedimo is a company operating in the forwarding and transport industry for nearly twenty-five years, serving a wide portfolio of clients operating in the groupage transport segment. Over the years, it observed how the dominant transport exchanges on the market evolved into increasingly extensive and complex tools that do not meet the needs of smaller forwarders working at a fast pace and with high operational volatility. Spedimo identified a significant market gap in this area, as users in this segment needed an intuitive, fast solution focused on key activities related to groupage loads. The company decided to enter this space with a new product that redefines the ergonomics of a forwarder’s work and simplifies communication and order handling in the realities of dynamic groupage transport.

Initial requirements

Spedimo approached us with the need to create a new transport exchange designed specifically for the groupage segment, as the platforms available on the market were excessively complex and slowed down the work of smaller forwarders. The client expected market analysis, refinement of the target group, and the definition of a set of functions intended to shorten the transaction process and simplify the management of a large number of offers. Spedimo assumed that the project’s success would depend on creating a lightweight, fast, and intuitive platform that would become a real alternative to the dominant market solution and allow them to enter the game with a new value proposition aimed at a precisely selected groupage transport sector.

Challenge

The project required a full Product Development process because, to create a platform capable of breaking the monopoly, it was first necessary to understand the real needs of users in the groupage transport segment. Existing exchanges were created with large operators in mind, so their functionality did not reflect the way smaller forwarders work. The key challenge was to conduct a series of in-depth user interviews and workshops to reveal actual operational pain points hidden under layers of habits and long-standing routines. The difficulty lay in the fact that users often used tools ill-suited to their processes, unaware of how much they limited the pace of work and the quality of communication. It was necessary to gather information from many sources, cross-reference it with market analysis, and create a process map to identify actions crucial for transaction speed. Only on this basis was it possible to design a product that responds to the specific problems of the groupage segment while simultaneously meeting requirements for performance, scalability, and simplified workflow.

Project goals

Business goals

  • creating a platform that shortens transaction time thanks to a simplified process and a minimum amount of required data
  • preparing an exchange dedicated to the groupage transport segment and breaking the monopoly of existing solutions
  • improving communication between forwarders, logistics specialists, and drivers through a single central place for exchanging information and documents
  • enabling users to efficiently manage a large number of offers thanks to an intuitive interface and quick access to key data
  • building a solid foundation for scaling Spedimo’s operations and handling a growing number of users and transactions

Technical goals

  • designing an architecture that ensures high performance and short response times under heavy load
  • creating a structure that allows for dynamic functional development without losing process consistency and business logic
  • ensuring full synchronization between the web and mobile versions based on a common system core
  • implementing real-time communication mechanisms to support chat, negotiations, and notifications
  • using efficient filtering and search modules to ensure quick access to information even in conditions of intensive operational work

Solution description

The project began by defining key processes and recreating the actual work rhythm of forwarders operating in the groupage segment, which allowed for the design of a platform focused on rapid decision-making. The team created modules for adding loads, managing vehicles, handling multiple offers, and conducting negotiations in a single environment, which significantly speeds up the users’ work.

The central element of the solution became a filter engine that analyzes large datasets and allows users to immediately find the most suitable offers. The mechanism was designed to work efficiently even with hundreds of active records per user and to take into account parameters crucial for groupage transport, such as distance, route direction, and availability time.

The system also introduced support for private exchanges, allowing users to create closed cooperation loops with selected companies. This functionality supports the building of trusted business relationships and enables the exchange of loads in a controlled environment.

An important part of the platform became the process of validating carrier and forwarder documents, which affects transaction security and the credibility of market participants. A solution was implemented that combines automatic document analysis with manual verification performed by the operations team, allowing for quick checks of the validity of certificates, licenses, and permits, and ensuring a high level of data quality.

The communication layer was based on real-time mechanisms that enable information exchange in real time. Users can conduct conversations, send photos and documents, and finalize arrangements without leaving the platform. Thanks to the modular monolith architecture and Vue, .NET, SignalR, and Flutter technologies, the system achieved high responsiveness and allows for easy functional expansion in subsequent iterations.

Business effects

The Spedimo platform achieved full operational readiness and was prepared to handle a large number of users working at the fast pace characteristic of groupage transport. Thanks to the optimized architecture and efficient filter engine, users gained the ability to browse and process offers without delays, which significantly improved their daily work.

  • the loading time of key views was shortened to a level enabling work practically in real time, which noticeably increased the pace of transaction handling
  • efficient management of hundreds of offers simultaneously was enabled, resulting in higher commercial effectiveness for forwarders operating in the groupage model
  • a document validation process for carriers and forwarders was introduced, which increased transaction security and reduced the risk of cooperation with unverified entities
  • private exchanges allowed companies to create their own closed cooperation ecosystems, which strengthened relationships with trusted partners and increased operational predictability
  • automation of communication and the implementation of real-time chat accelerated information exchange, resulting in faster order confirmations and more efficient finalization of arrangements
  • preparing the system to handle large data volumes and conducted load tests confirmed the possibility of scaling the platform beyond the original business assumptions

As a result, Spedimo entered the market with a tool that realistically simplifies and accelerates operational processes and addresses the needs of a precisely selected segment, allowing the company to stand out from the competition and break the dominance of existing solutions.

Client testimonial

From the beginning, we wanted to create a platform that would realistically respond to the needs of forwarders working in the groupage segment and allow us to break the monopoly of existing exchanges. The resulting solution met our expectations because the system works fast, is intuitive, and supports users in their daily operational decisions. The cooperation was transparent and predictable, and the team was able to translate our business needs into specific functionalities.
