Press Glass – decided to make radical changes in the supply chain by implementing a proprietary application for recording returnable racks for produced glass panes. This solution, based on RFID technologies, QR codes, and integration with the ERP system, significantly accelerated warehouse processes while improving their transparency.

How does a mobile application speed up logistics?

Optimization of finished product storage and delegation of loading and unloading orders was the main goal of the project, in which system-business analysis played a key role, and the result was a mobile application. It was thanks to mobile devices equipped with a dedicated system that employees had access to assigned tasks at all times. They knew where to store the glass pane racks, where to pick them up from, and where to deliver them. The application provided full recording of the process in one place and enabled a significant improvement in the delivery management process.

The key to efficiency: RFID, QR, and a dedicated application

The project for Press Glass was based on Zebra TC8000 terminals, equipped with RFID readers and QR codes. This allowed the warehouse team to verify the contents of a pallet or container in seconds, eliminate errors during goods receipt, and instantly update data in the ERP system. The Android Skaner App, running on the Android platform, utilizes:

  • Zebra SDK – for advanced configuration and scanning automation,
  • WCF – for communication with internal Press Glass systems,
  • Employee card authentication – increasing security and control of warehouse operations.

This combination of technologies allowed for approximately 40% faster cargo handling compared to previous solutions used at Press Glass.

Real-time data synchronization

Efficient warehouse operation requires consistent information about stock levels and the workload of individual people and resources. Android Skaner App offers Press Glass managers:

  • Instant access to loading and unloading statuses,
  • Current records of available warehouse space,
  • Elimination of errors already at the packing stage thanks to automatic alerts in case of discrepancies.

As a result, the company also gained the ability to optimize resources in various warehouses and branches worldwide – all from a single, central system.

Conclusions for CTOs in the logistics industry

1. Scalability as a priority
Even the most innovative solution will not fulfill its role if it cannot be adapted to changing requirements and a growing number of orders. The implementation at Press Glass shows that an architecture supporting growth is the foundation for any company where logistics is a significant process.

2. Integration in the IT ecosystem
Projects should not be conducted in isolation from the rest of the infrastructure. Connection with the ERP system and other modules allows for a consistent data flow and easier operation management.

3. Mobility and automation
Terminals equipped with RFID, QR, or employee cards streamline warehouse operations and reduce costs due to fewer errors and faster picking.

4. Transparency and security
An application that enables employee authentication and real-time verification of goods compliance significantly increases the level of control and service quality.

5. Focus on development
Further expansion of the system with cloud analytics, additional identification methods, or offline functions is the way to even greater efficiency and market advantage.

Summary

The example of Press Glass proves that a properly designed mobile application – equipped with tools such as RFID, QR codes, and integration with the ERP system – can revolutionize warehouse management even on an international scale. From the perspective of a CTO in the logistics industry, this is a clear signal that digitalization and automation are the keys to faster, more efficient, and more resilient supply chains.
